Feng shui for beginners

The Star

Joey Yap’s Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui Beginner’s Workshop
Running time: 240 minutes

There is a growing worldwide obsession with feng shui, a 3,000-year-old Chinese art and practice. So zealous in fact that it has reached the point of being bizarre. Look no further than the so-called feng shui experts who deftly manage put a feng shui spin to everything – from fashion to the colour you want to paint your house.

Hence, it is important that you are clear of what feng shui is all about so that you know what is applicable and avoid any confusion that may arise.

Many people tend to assume that it is the art of placement while others see it as harnessing the qi (energy) of the environment.

But according to feng shui consultant Joey Yap, feng shui is “harnessing qi of the environment, your living environment, to help you with certain endeavours”.

And contrary to the perception that feng shui is about creating financial wealth and windfalls, providing quick fix remedies for financial or personal problems or finding miracles to solve your health or marital problems, Yap says feng shui is about achieving an overall lifestyle that supports your dreams, goals and ambitions. “It is about attaining life fulfillment”.

Yap is the founder and chief executive officer of the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics, an international institution of higher learning dedicated to the study and teaching of Chinese Metaphysics in Kuala Lumpur. He is also the CEO of Yap Global Consulting, an international feng shui consulting firm.

The 29-year-old Curtin University (Australia) graduate’s love for Chinese metaphysics began at a young age. He studied under a feng shui master when he was a teenager.

Last year, Yap launched Joey Yap Live! Series, a collection of DVDs featuring live visual recordings of his feng shui seminars conducted in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.

The Joey Yap Live! Series enables individuals, practitioners and enthusiasts to learn about feng shui from the comfort of home and at their own pace.

Yap’s Xuan Kong Flying Star Feng Shui Beginners Workshop box-set is one of the titles under the Joey Yap Live! Series and comes with three DVDs and a Feng Shui Beginners Workshop workbook.

From the DVDs, enthusiasts learn the essentials of Flying Star Feng Shui in just four hours. In addition, they will learn to analyse Flying Star Charts, identify Superior Flying Star Charts, harness beneficial qi for your home or office and utilise remedies and cures.

It is best that you first read the workbook before viewing the DVD so as to familiarise yourself with the subjects.

While it seems easy (and presumptuous) to watch the DVDs in one sitting and fancy yourself omniscient after the experience, well, I found out that there is a lot to learn.

The box-set Is informative and a good source for beginners to get an idea of what flying star feng shui or feng shui in general is about.
